Responsible Tourism -Walkit Holidays

The health of the environment is of concern to everyone and we at Walkit Holidays take our responsibilities seriously with a commitment to sustainable tourism that does its best to conserve and protect the world’s ecosystems. In Queensland, we live amongst one of the most spectacular wilderness areas in Australia with the Outback, Island, Rainforest and Reef all within 500km. We at walkit holidays endeavor to operate in an environmentally aware and sustainable manner to preserve our own backyard.

To further the need to protect the biodiversity, fauna and flora of the National Parks and World heritage listed areas, along with the cultural heritage of the area in which we operate, we provide all our clients with detailed information about the area and walks they will be doing. All walkers will have a detailed map and the campsite and guides/vehicles have guide books on the history, geography, flora and fauna, photos and the last wildlife spotting information as will as information about locally senstive issue at the time of travel.

We are also very conscious about the need to minimise the use of 4WD transport and walkit encouraged all persons to hike the many paths of south east Queensland. Therefore we have designed more and more independent walking holidays where only occasional use of 4WD is required, leaving only footprints.

By providing dedicated services, we actively encourage families to book a holiday with us and so discover the Fraser Island Magic of a World Heritage Site and other unspoilt parts of Moreton Island and Springbrook Rainforest, in order to foster or develop an enjoyment and understanding of nature.

Walkit HQ

With regards to ourselves, we have a small, home-based office with one computer, one printer, a telephone, 2 desks, a lamp, a bookshelf and a filing cabinet. That’s it. We recycle everything that we can, including printer ink cartridges, and use recycled products wherever possible. Except for our Trail guides, we use very little paper (recycled), as almost all our bookings come through our website or by email.
